Things to Do in Wakhan Valley
Starting points for your perfect trip
Yamchun Fortress
Climb to a 3rd century BC fortress perched 400 meters above the Panj River at 3,100 meters. The walls stretch across 75 hectares with 36 towers in chess formation. From the ramparts you look directly into Afghanistan's Hindu Kush peaks.
Bibi Fatima Hot Springs
Bathe in 40-degree mineral water emerging from rock inside a narrow canyon at 3,200 meters. Named for the Prophet's daughter, these gender-segregated springs are a pilgrimage site where mineral deposits create vivid green and gold walls.
Pik Engels Meadows Trek
Hike 20 kilometers round trip from Langar to alpine meadows at 4,000 meters beneath the pyramid of Peak Engels at 6,510 meters. The trail passes Bronze Age petroglyphs and opens to panoramic views across the Wakhan Valley and Hindu Kush.
