Kubanychbek "Kuban" Jumabai uulu
Founder & Director, Snow Leopard Foundation in Kyrgyzstan
Kuban is the founder and director of the Snow Leopard Foundation in Kyrgyzstan and Country Program Director for the Seattle-based Snow Leopard Trust, roles he has held for more than fifteen years. His teams produced the first photographic evidence of wild snow leopards in the Sarychat-Ertash Reserve and the Kyrgyz Ala-Too Range, and his long-term camera trap and GPS collaring work now forms the scientific backbone of snow leopard monitoring across the country. He was instrumental in converting the former Shamshy hunting concession into a co-managed wildlife sanctuary in 2015, a model now replicated across Kyrgyzstan, and he is one of the earliest advocates for carefully capped, community-staffed snow leopard ecotourism as a direct funding stream for conservation.
