South America's only English-speaking nation. Guyana is a hidden gem boasting pristine rainforests covering 80% of the country, spectacular waterfalls including the mighty Kaieteur Falls, and incredible biodiversity. From the coastal plains where most Guyanese live to the vast interior savannas and highlands, this sparsely populated country offers authentic adventures in untouched wilderness. Recent oil discoveries have transformed Guyana into one of the world's fastest-growing economies, yet it remains one of Earth's best-kept secrets for eco-tourism and cultural immersion.

When to Go to Guyana

Every season reveals a different face of the country. Here's how to find yours.

January
Peak
The minor wet season's "cashew rains" taper off as January progresses, transitioning toward drier conditions. Georgetown stays warm and humid with afternoon showers becoming less frequent. Kaieteur Falls runs powerfully from accumulated wet-season rainfall, and flight access is generally reliable. Interior roads begin drying out, improving overland access to Iwokrama and the Rupununi. Giant river otters are active along shrinking waterways, and black caiman spotting on night boat trips is productive. Birding is excellent, with migratory species overlapping with residents and cock-of-the-rock lekking displays beginning. A quieter month for tourism with competitive lodge rates and uncrowded experiences throughout the interior.
