Things to Do in Namibia
Starting points for your perfect trip
Desert-Adapted Black Rhino Tracking
Track critically endangered desert-adapted black rhino on foot with Save the Rhino Trust rangers across the 583,000-hectare Palmwag Concession. Home to the world's largest free-roaming population, these rhino are unhabituated and uncollarred. No vehicles, no roads, no guarantees. Real tracking in genuine wilderness.
Skeleton Coast Fly-In Expedition
Fly with Schoeman's, the family operation running the only permitted fly-in safaris inside the Skeleton Coast National Park since 1977. Maximum 8 passengers, exclusive remote camps, shipwrecks, whale bones, Himba encounters, and ancient rock art — one of Earth's genuinely unreachable places.
Ju/'hoansi San Immersion, Nyae Nyae
Spend time with one of Earth's oldest human populations in the Nyae Nyae Conservancy — 2.23 million acres managed entirely by the Ju/'hoansi San people. Community trackers share 27,000 years of survival knowledge: tracking, fire-making, medicinal plants, and traditional hunting techniques passed through generations.
Tok Tokkie Dark Sky Sleepout
Sleep on open stretcher beds under the world's second Gold Tier certified Dark Sky Reserve. No tents, no walls — just 300+ clear nights annually and the southern Milky Way overhead. Walk through fairy circles by day, track tok-tokkie beetles at dusk, and eat a gourmet three-course dinner in the dunes. Maximum 8 guests.
Sperrgebiet: The Forbidden Diamond Territory
Enter a territory sealed for over a century. Namibia's restricted diamond zone requires a police permit just to access. Inside: the 55-meter Bogenfels rock arch, the ghost town of Pomona disappearing under dunes, and a landscape completely untouched by tourism infrastructure. Day tours depart from Luderitz with certified guides.
Himba Immersion, Kaokoveld
Not a roadside village stop. Through the Marienfluss Conservancy on the Kunene River, engage with Himba communities on their own terms in Namibia's most remote northwestern corner — accessible only by light aircraft or Van Zyl's Pass. One of Africa's last truly intact pastoral cultures, living as they have for centuries.
