Namibia Tour Overview
Eleven days by private charter from the NamibRand and Sossusvlei to the Skeleton Coast, the Kunene River and eastern Etosha
Eleven days by private charter from the red dunes of the NamibRand and Sossusvlei to the far north: two nights inside the Skeleton Coast National Park, two on the Kunene River at the Angolan border, and two on a private reserve on the edge of Etosha. Five camps, two nights each, fully inclusive throughout, and no long drives anywhere. Up to 4 guests in the aircraft.
11-Day Namibia Desert and Remote North Fly-in Safari
You are met on arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport and handed your travel documents, then meet your pilot for a briefing before the flight south, about an hour and twenty minutes, to the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
A short transfer to Wolwedans Dune Camp, six tents on the edge of a 250-metre dune looking across open red sand to the mountains. The afternoon ends with a drive and sundowners on the dunes. Two nights here, fully inclusive.
Meals Fully inclusive
A full day out on the reserve, six to eight hours with a picnic lunch on the way: red dunes, gravel plains, mountain ranges and grassland, one of the most beautiful stretches of the Namib and one of the emptiest.
After dark the sky here is among the darkest in Africa, and the camp's star beds are there for anyone who wants to sleep under it.
Meals Fully inclusive
A short hop of about twenty minutes over the sand sea to &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, on a private reserve of star dunes and desert mountains.
The lodge's activities begin the same afternoon. Two nights here, fully inclusive.
Meals Fully inclusive
The dunes. Sossusvlei itself, a climb of Big Daddy, and Deadvlei with its nine-hundred-year-old camelthorn skeletons on cracked white clay, plus Sesriem Canyon, only two metres wide in places. Star dunes with as many as five crests rise three hundred metres here, in the oldest desert on earth.
The reserve fills the rest of the stay: a nature drive, a guided walk, quad biking, San rock paintings and the petrified dunes, and after dark the lodge's observatory with its resident astronomer.
Meals Fully inclusive
A scenic flight north over the sand sea and up the Atlantic coast to Swakopmund, about an hour and a half, with the old diamond workings, shipwrecks and Sandwich Harbour below. Around thirty minutes to refuel, then another hour and a half north to Möwe Bay, inside the Skeleton Coast National Park.
A transfer to Shipwreck Lodge, in the dunes above one of the most remote coastlines on earth: cold water, fog, and more than a thousand wrecks along the shore. Two nights here, fully inclusive.
Meals Fully inclusive
The camp's excursions fill the day: an introduction to the Skeleton Coast, sandboarding on the roaring dunes, lunch on the beach, a drive up the Hoarusib River, the clay castles and quad biking.
The day ends with a sundowner drive. The lichens and succulents here live on the coastal fog, and the wildlife that makes a living in this country, from brown hyena to desert-adapted elephant in the riverbeds, is sparse and never guaranteed, which is part of what makes it remarkable.
Meals Fully inclusive
The flight north from Möwe Bay to Hartmann's Valley, about fifty minutes, and a transfer to Serra Cafema on the banks of the Kunene River, the border with Angola.
It is one of the most remote camps in southern Africa, a green strip of trees along the river in the middle of the desert. Two nights here, fully inclusive.
Meals Fully inclusive
A full day with the camp's guides: nature drives into Hartmann's Valley, boating on the Kunene when the water level allows, walks along the river and in the valleys, and guided quad biking on set tracks that protect the dunes.
The Himba live semi-nomadically in this country, and when they are in the area a visit can be part of the day. Himba visits are arranged through the camp with guides who know the families; nobody is photographed without being asked.
Meals Fully inclusive
The flight east from Hartmann's Valley to Ondangwa to refuel, about an hour and twenty-five minutes, then thirty minutes on to Mokuti on Etosha's eastern edge, and a short transfer to Onguma Camp Kala.
Four suites on raised walkways around one of the busiest waterholes on the Onguma Reserve. Two nights here, fully inclusive, with two activities a day.
Meals Fully inclusive
Two activities a day, into Etosha National Park and on the 34,000-hectare Onguma Reserve, which holds four of the Big Five. Between them, the camp's ground-level hide looks straight onto the waterhole.
Etosha holds 114 mammal species and 340 bird species around a 4,800 square kilometre salt pan, and the eastern side is flat endless plain and tree savannah, reached through the Von Lindequist Gate.
Meals Fully inclusive
A last morning activity, then the transfer to Mokuti and the flight back to Hosea Kutako International Airport, about an hour and a half.
Check-in for international flights closes two hours before departure, so afternoon and evening flights connect best.

Five regions, two nights each.
Every camp is fully inclusive: meals, local drinks and the camp's activities, as listed against each day. Park fees for the included activities are covered too.
Because one night at a remote camp is mostly arriving and leaving. Two nights give you a full day at each stop, which is where the dunes, the Skeleton Coast and the Kunene actually happen.
Often, yes. Damaraland or the Zambezi region can be added, and charter routes adjusted, subject to camp availability. Each change is quoted individually. Ask us.
What a charter safari is actually like.
A Cessna 210, chartered for your party alone, flown by a licensed pilot who briefs you before each flight. The rates are for two or four travellers.
About an hour and twenty from Windhoek to the NamibRand, twenty minutes to Sossusvlei, an hour and a half up the coast to Swakopmund with a refuelling stop, another hour and a half to Möwe Bay, fifty minutes to Hartmann's Valley, an hour and twenty-five to refuel at Ondangwa and thirty minutes on to Etosha, and an hour and a half back to Windhoek.
Yes. Light aircraft carry limited weight and space, so soft bags are needed and there is a limit per person. We confirm the exact allowance when you book.
What is included, and what can change.
International flights, travel insurance, optional extras such as a balloon flight or scenic flights, premium imported drinks and champagne, gratuities and visas.
The charter is priced on the aviation fuel cost at the time of quoting, so a significant change in fuel prices before travel can change the flight cost. We tell you if it does.
Solo departures are quoted individually because one person carries the whole cost of the charter. Contact us and we will price it.
What is realistic.
Through Serra Cafema, with guides who know the families, and only when the Himba are in the area, since they move with their herds. We do not stop at roadside villages, and nobody is photographed without being asked.
Less than in Etosha, and that is the point: the animals that live here have adapted to one of the driest places on earth. Seals, brown hyena, oryx and, in the riverbeds, desert-adapted elephant are possible but never certain.
Etosha holds 114 mammal species and 340 bird species, and two nights on the eastern side give you a real chance at elephant, lion, rhino and large herds of plains game. Nothing is guaranteed, and any operator who tells you otherwise is selling you something they cannot deliver.
