Mongolia remains Earth's most sparsely populated nation, with 3.5 million people spread across a territory larger than Western Europe. Nearly a third still follow seasonal migrations with their herds, moving through landscapes that shift from the Gobi Desert's singing dunes and dinosaur graveyards to alpine lakes holding one percent of the world's fresh water. In the west, Kazakh eagle hunters maintain traditions stretching back four millennia. Across the steppes, the Przewalski's horse, once extinct in the wild, gallops free again. Ecovoyager's Mongolia tour packages connect these remote corners through nomadic family stays, expedition vehicles, and guides who bridge ancient ways with modern conservation.

When to Go to Mongolia

Every season reveals a different face of the country. Here's how to find yours.

Early summer brings ideal conditions across most of Mongolia. Ulaanbaatar enjoys comfortable highs around 75°F with cool evenings around 50°F. The steppe is lush and brilliantly green—this is Mongolia at its most visually stunning. All ger camps are operational, roads are drying out, and the full range of activities becomes available: horseback riding, trekking, nomadic family visits, and wildlife viewing. The Crane Festival takes place in Khentii Province around June 10. Afternoon rain showers become more frequent but are usually brief. The Gobi Desert is warm but manageable, with daytime temperatures in the 80s. Northern Mongolia around Khuvsgul Lake emerges from ice by early June. Daylight stretches to 16 hours, maximizing exploration time. This is widely considered one of the best months to visit—green landscapes, comfortable temperatures, fully operational infrastructure, and no peak-season crowds.
