Issyk Kul Full Circuit: Into the Valleys & Mountains of the Tian Shan
Issyk Kul Full Circuit: Into the Valleys & Mountains of the Tian Shan
Silk Road Ruins, Red Rock Canyons & Eagle Hunters on the World's Second-Largest Alpine Lake
This 8-day expedition circles Kyrgyzstan’s great alpine lake through landscapes most travelers never reach. From the Silk Road ruins of Burana Tower and a home-cooked Dungan lunch, the route pushes into the Chon Kemin Valley by 4WD, climbs into the Semyonov Gorge on horseback to sleep in a shepherd’s jailoo, and descends into the ecotourism village of Jyrgalan before spending a night in the Altyn Arashan valley soaking in natural hot springs. The southern shore brings the Seven Bulls of Jeti Oguz, Barskoon waterfall, Skazka Canyon, and a private eagle hunting demonstration with a fourth-generation berkutchi, before a farewell dinner in the mountains south of Bishkek.
