Tepshi to Sary Oi: Riding Day 2

After breakfast, the day opens with the ascent to Airy Bell Pass at 2,956 meters: steep for the first hour, then easing near the summit where the panorama opens west across the sharp granite peaks of the Kum Bell Mountains. The descent drops nearly 1,100 meters into Cholo Kaiyng Gorge for a picnic lunch by the river with views back up to the ridge just crossed. At the summit (3,557 meters), the lower Alay Mountains give way entirely to one of the great viewpoints of the trek: the vast flat basin of the Alay Valley stretches south, backed by the continuous white wall of the Trans-Alay Range from east to west. Picnic lunch at the pass.
