Day 1

Bishkek to Kilemche Valley

Pickup from your Bishkek hotel at 08:00 in a private 4x4 to Kochkor, your last stop for ATMs and supplies, then on over the Kyzart pass at 2,665 meters to Kyzart village. Lunch is at the horse guide’s family home; extra luggage stays locked here while you carry only essentials for two nights. The riding begins along the Bazar-Turuk River, climbing to the Boordu pass at 2,605 meters where the Kilemche jailoo opens ahead, a broad highland basin blanketed in wildflowers. Kilemche Valley to Son-Kul Lake

From the summit, Son-Kul Lake appears for the first time, deceptively small, a flat blue oval set in the highland basin. Son-Kul to Bishkek

Wake to sunrise over the Son-Kul plateau before a final breakfast at the lakeshore. The vehicle departs at 09:00, climbing back over the Kalmak Ashu road pass at 3,447 meters, a different route from the riding approach offering a final aerial view of the lake basin from above, before descending through the Boom Gorge toward the lowlands. Lunch stop in Kochkor town, where the shyrdak felt carpet tradition is among the finest in Kyrgyzstan; a brief visit to a local felt workshop can be arranged here on request.
