The Guyana Birding Expedition
Rainforest canopy, open savanna, and gallery forest across 15 days of endemic birding
This 15-day expedition targets the full range of Guianan Shield endemics across five habitat types: coastal wetlands, lowland Amazonian rainforest, white-sand forest, gallery forest on the Brazilian border, and the open savannas of the North and South Rupununi. The routing is built around four range-restricted species that serious Neotropical listers travel specifically to Guyana to see: Sun Parakeet at Karasabai, Red Siskin at Sand Creek, and Rio Branco Antbird and Hoary-throated Spinetail along the Ireng River. The itinerary moves south through the country without backtracking, with three separate Cock-of-the-Rock opportunities, two full days on the Atta canopy walkway for the cotinga suite, and a Harpy Eagle nest trail with Makushi guides at Surama.
